Bought this living butter lettuce at the store, when I finished the head I thought I'd try and use the container as a little green house and now it's making baby lettuce :)

I hadn't thought of growing it in the box, we usually leave a bit of green and plant it in the garden. Free lettuce!

Grab yourself some hydroponic plant food and it will really take off!

You used the container for its original purpose. The lettuce is grown from seed in these in a hydroponic greenhouse.

I couldn't find anything on the website that said they grow them inside of the on shelf packaging but I'm glad it's working regardless.

Is there anything special you did to turn it into a greenhouse? Idk anything about them, but some dirt in the bottom and plant food would probable help a lot.

Well there is still peat on the roots, I just gave it some water and stuck it in a window sill.

Since your growing baby lettuce, you'll need green onions too! Just use your store bought green onions (the dark green part), but leave all the white part with roots with about an inch of the green and put them in a small glass of water in your windowsill kinda like flowers. It will regrow the green part in about a week! Change out the water every couple of days.

We did this and then transferred it to a jar of water and it had little "worms" living in the water. Still don't know what they were but ended up throwing it out.
